This week’s podcast assignment was very challenging, but the suggested resources were navigable, and I learned a lot. I chose to use Garageband since it was on my laptop, but just needed an update. I read a bit of the help menu and got started recording some voice and sound samples. I chose to record the throwing a pot on the pottery wheel as my subject because I had recently been at the NJ Art Teacher’s Convention where we threw with our feet. I have video of that experience which I have posted on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ktfcarney/videos/10207576763801685/. I plan to make a podcast of throwing with my feet, but I thought I should do the traditional method first.
I wrote the script and experimented with sounds in Garageband . I found so many of the guitar rifts to be “intrusive” and “tinny” sounding, even when I lowered the volume to have them in the background. So I strummed my ukulele and liked that sound. I am sure the sound would have been better if I had a microphone. For the final cut I recorded my voice in narration vocal and my husband playing ukulele in guitar natural flat pick. The only other sound I put in was the handclap when throwing the clay onto the wheel. I know there is much more to know and understand about podcasts and using Garageband, but I feel like I have made some inroads and will be using it to provide support instruction in my classroom, as well as have students make podcasts to share experiences or give feedback on lessons. I won't be able to post my podcast here until I upgrade. It means spending $9. a month to get the audio feature.

The 2015 AENJ Conference was a great experience, especially as I participated in many first time events. Here I am throwing a pot on the pottery wheel with me feet. The workshop was called "Unconventional Ways to Throw on Pottery Wheel," and when I signed up for it, I had no idea what was in store. The Lindenwold teacher who ran the workshop, Kurt Digiovani, is an excellent teacher who is able to make accommodations for many varied learners. I have posted the video on Facebook if you'd like to see it: https://www.facebook.com/ktfcarney/videos/vb.1367976560/10207576763801685/?type=2&theater¬if_t=video_processed
